The main architectural styles of early Monrovia are listed above. Within each of these architectural styles are subtypes, and determining exactly what the primary architectural style of a structure is sometimes difficult. The administrators of this site refer as needed to professional references in determining the predominant architectural style of structures, always keeping in mind that early Southern California citrus communities applied their own spin to nationally popular architecture. Some of the sources used are listed at the bottom of this screen.
At this time, our research is confined to the Town of Monrovia Subdivision from 1885-1900 (with a few exceptions. Because these years correspond to the Victorian period, only the Victorian architectural style category contains any structures. Eventually all categories will contain structures.
