We were unable to find anything about William Smith, the first owner of Lot 17, Block B in the Town of Monrovia Subdivision.  He owned the property, valued at $400, in 1888.  He is also listed as the owner in 1889, but instead of paying the taxes on it, the property is sold to Henry Hart.

There are two references to a someone who could be William Smith.  The first is Captain William Smith, but he is described as owning property on North Primrose and building at $4,000 house there.  The second is a W.H. Smith who served as City Attorney for Town of Monrovia in 1890.  Since a house doesn't appear on Lot 17 until 1907, it is unlikely that either of these two men owned the property.
